Lucille’s Kitty Korner: Celebrating Unicorn Day With Your Cat!

Attire

Before you can properly celebrate Unicorn Day, you must be certain that all in attendance of your fête are wearing the correct garb.  This, of course, means anything purple.  Blue is also acceptable in a pinch.  Bonus points if sparkles are involved, or feathers, or — and this would be ideal — something designed by Lisa Frank.  (Skittles and I have a bright purple Trapper Keeper that we save recipes in to honor the unicorn year round!)

For a fun craft project, I suggest making your own unicorn T-shirt by printing out a beautiful unicorn portrait on iron-on craft paper.  You’ll be the talk of the town this Unicorn Day with your unique attire!  I know when Skittles and I take our afternoon walk in matching shirts, heads turn!

Festivities

Everyone knows that Unicorns love the following things:  1.) flying 2.) chasing rainbows 3.) the laughter of children 4.) eating rose petals in cream and 5.) making dreams come true.  To honor this, Skittles and I do our own unicorn role play.  We put on our own unicorn horns (I actually have a unicorn mask I got last time Skittles and I went to the Renaissance Faire!) and we hit the streets, fulfilling fantasies!  We hand out popsicles at the playground, give horn-shaped sandwiches to hobos and visit the old folks’ home, where we sing them traditional unicorn madrigals.  There’s never a dull moment!  After we’re done spreading joy, much like a unicorn does, we return home to make our traditional Unicorn Ice Cream.

Unicorn Ice Cream

Making unicorn ice cream is easy if you have an ice cream maker.  The only special ingredients are rose extract and a heart free from sin.

Ingredients:

4 cups light cream

3 cups heavy cream

1 cup milk

1 cup white sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons rose extract

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 dash pink food coloring

Whisk the ingredients together in a bowl.  Pour into an ice cream maker and make according to instructions.  You can give your kitty a little bit, but not too much, unless you want to deal with the kitty litter consequences.

Here’s wishing you all a magical Unicorn Day!

Love,

Lucille and Skittles

  1. Some Unicorn

Aw man, this article left me with a hankering for some rose petal ice cream, but I don’t have time to make it. Someone wanna bring me some? Will trade for a sip of my rainbow blood.

Unicorn role play? Ice cream? Does Lucille know just how exciting she’s making this sound? Does Shirley know about all of the unintentional innuendo and potential for Lucille-teasing here?

Does this work equally as well for a doggie? I think my dog would like to wear a unicorn horn. 🙂
