Looking For A Professional Clown?

BOO BOO THE CIRCUS CLOWN

Boo_Boo_clown

Pros: He brings his own set, teaches clownery to children (a 4-to-6 hour class with no breaks), and can walk on stilts.

Cons: His new show, “God Is Crazy About You,” is only appropriate for Christian children (for atheist or agnostic children, may we suggest Daisy Doodle, later in our review).

Cost: “It is difficult to put a price on the opportunity to tell others about Jesus,” says Boo Boo on his website.  “The suggested asking honorarium fee is very affordable and negotiable.  I will work with your church and budget because it is not about the honorarium fee, but about sharing the gospel of Jesus with the lost.”  Well, guess it is appropriate for non-Christian children after all.

Fun Fact: “[Boo Boo’s] plan of Salvation is extremely easy for the children to understand, but will make a powerful empact [sic] on adults as well,” reads Boo Boo’s website.

SILLY RICKYS [sic] JUGGLING AND FUN

sillyricky

Pros:  Fire juggles, has some corporate seminar experience, accepts personal checks, and has a battery operated stereo system.

Cons:  “Urban” clown suit may not be appropriate for all ages — not recommended if your temple or rec center has a ban on rap music!

Cost:  Silly Ricky’s rate is $160 for one hour or $280 for two hours (includes birthday gift for the special child)

Fun Fact:  When you book Silly Ricky he will send your children a personalized video letting them know that Silly Ricky will be at their birthday party.  So, make sure Silly Ricky has your child’s personal email address!!!

DAISY DOODLE

Daisy_Doodle

Pros:  Good for children afraid of clowns!  Offers visor decorating, multi-color popsicle stick sculpting, “Merry Madcap Olympics,” and brings her own homemade Disney princess costumes (adult size only).

Cons:  She looks like she may spontaneously cry if the kids are too mean.  Ages 7 and under only, please!

Cost:  CASH ONLY, call for quotes!  “Daisy Doodle sometimes gets very busy and can’t check her emails for days at a time,” says her website.  Seems suspicious, but a prolific clown like Daisy is likely hard to pin down!

Fun Fact:  Balloon hats are not just for kids!

BJ The Clown & Company

BJ_the_clownPros:  A consummate professional (he has been doing this for 12 years and has performed more than 3,000 shows!), BJ even offers his own clip art! His website also includes a section of his favorite gif animations, including “Jackhammer,” “’No’ Monkey” and a photo-realistic waterfall. He also promises to keep everyone happy, even in long food lines. Good rates – you can’t afford NOT to hire BJ!

Cons:  After your children see BJ perform, they may never laugh at any of your jokes or buffoonery ever again. Their tiny cheeks may also hurt from smiling so much.

Cost:  The “Classic” BJ show is $125 for 45 minutes of “laffs” and does not include face painting or balloons.  The “Deluxe” show is just more than an hour for $145, with balloons and games.  The “Super” BJ show includes “even more time for games and balloons.” A library show is $150 plus $25 for a “BJ’s Backyard backdrop” option, and BJ will use professional product placement techniques to tie-in YOUR library books to the show (includes books on magic, juggling, circuses, clowns, costumes, puppets and/or music).

Fun Fact:  BJ has performed at Small Friends Preschool, Grout Elementary, Huggy Bear Preschool and Intel Corp.

We hope you enjoyed this illuminating look at a few local clowns, and please comment to let us know how your son or daughter’s birthday party turns out!
