4 Dogs & Their Deep Thoughts on Pancakes

Happy Mardis Gras! If you’re not eating pancakes right now, you should be.  These dogs are. And they have some deep canine thoughts about it, too. Check out these Shrove Tuesday-loving doggies!

4. This is Fifi and those are dreamy buttermilk pancakes.

To get into the spirit of Mardis Gras, Fifi bounds about the  great outdoors chasing the buttermilk pancakes in her mind. It is true that those pancakes are not real, but rather that they are delectable, warm figments of Fifi’s imagination. However, Fifi’s joie de vivre is quite palpable and more satiating than the tallest of pancake stacks.  In a sense, Fifi is the very pancakes she chases in her optimism-fueled doggie dreams.

3. Regina would like you to take a step back from her karob pancakes made with Irish butter imported from Killarney.

Regina, a fashionista at heart, and feather boa collector in practice, goes all out on Pancake Tuesday.  This picture was taken after  Reggie and her pals, two twin poodles (Jack and Osiris),  finished off two virgin hurricanes each at Marigny Brasserie in The French Quarter. That was the brunch where Regina claimed that she intended to give up bacon for Lent, but Jack and Osiris each having their doubts, laughed at her in synchronous high-pitched chortles.  Regina didn’t speak to Jack and Osiris for days, until they presented her with a peace offering, more imported butter from Ireland, which she enjoyed atop a pile of bacon bits, in a celebration of delicious irony.

2. Meet Melody and her spirit animal, a stack of pancakes doused in syrup.

Melody enjoys pancakes so much that she has the Chinese symbol for pancake tattooed on her left paw.  She finds that pancakes symbolize all that is right in this world and when she is not sure what is next in her life, she asks WWPD.  Pancakes are as important to Melody as yarn is to cats, or water colors were to fin de siècle impressionist painters.

1. Introducing Princess, who takes Mardis Gras very seriously.

Princess is a dog who knows the value of moderation, and when to toss values to the wind because, guess what, it’s Mardis Gras. By day, Princess is a highly paid in-house accountant for a hedge-fund on Wall Street.  On Pancake Tuesday, she is a force to be reckoned with and a widely-respected flapjack connoisseur. Princess equates her knowledge of pancakes with her greatest life’s accomplishment. Her favorite pancake topping is a lightly buttered Snausage crumble.
