Meow Meow Meow, Comedivas!
Lucille and Skittles here, and we are just BESIDE ourselves today! Skittles just loves Earth Day. I put him on his leash and we do a nature hike, and he gets to chase birds in the real world! An animal needs at least one day a year to unleash his inner beast, just like you should let an animal… you know… with another cat before you get him fixed. My Yamama says, if you deprive an animal of expressing the physical act of love at least once in its cruel and beastly life, one day when you least suspect it, in the early hours of the morning, it will take its vengeance by eating your earlobe. I think that’s why my Great-auntie Charlotte has no earlobe.
Activities!
Earth Day is an amazing day when we enjoy the splendors of the great outdoors. Like I said, a nature hike is highly recommended. You’ll enjoy the fresh clean air, and your cat will enjoy reverting to his animal state. They say cats have an indoor personality and an outdoor personality, and when they leave the house, kitty once again becomes a wild panther! Give your cat the gift of freedom: this is their day to be ferocious, don’t patronize them with sweet talk. One Earth Day, I made the mistake of offering Skittles a pounce cat treat while he was stalking a bird and he gave me the dirtiest look. Now I just let him have “Skittles time,” while I eat my sandwich on a log or a stone. It’s very pleasant.Photo Source: ehow.com (Note: Not Skittles)
For homebodies, you can celebrate the importance of recycling with your cat by creating a cat toy out of a recycled toilet paper tube! All you’ll need is a pair of scissors and a cardboard tube:
1. Using a clean tube, cut a one-inch slit parallel to the side so that the other slits don’t intersect.
2. Cut parallel slits around the top of the tube at equal intervals until you’re all the way around.
3. Repeat on the other side.
4. Bend the tabs away from the tube so it makes a kind of wheel. Enjoy!
My handsome and talented future husband, John Fulton of Animal Planet’s Must Love Cats, taught Skittles and me that trick. We love him. Very much.
Treats!
Finally, at the end of a long and enjoyable Earth Day, it’s important to have a nice celebratory dinner. I recommend going all natural, using fresh ingredients to honor nature’s bounty. In our household, we prepare whatever Skittles kills during our nature walk, just like the Oregon Trail! Last year, Skittles actually caught two swallows, which I prepared in the French style, and we both ate them whole, bones and all, with a napkin over our heads, to hide the shameful act from the eyes of the world. I’ve always wanted to go to Paris!
Hope you and your kitties have a lovely Earth Day!

Great ideas, Lucille! Also love the yamama quote. I will definitely read this to my human, (she’s illiterate, unfortunately, so I do all her typing/reading).
