GLEE Reality Recap: Hold on to Sixteen
“Hold on to Sixteen” had little to do with the John Mellencamp song it refers to and more to do with Sam leaving the lucrative world of exotic dancing to come back to McKinley, Tina throwing her two cents around, sectionals, and of course, ridiculousness. Let’s break down this week’s WTF moments in our Reality Recap.
GLEE | REALITY | |
Former member Sam ditches his job at a strip joint (which his parents thought was a job at Dairy Queen) to come back and give an edge (and a performance of Toby Keith’s “Red Solo Cup”) to New Directions — all thanks to Finn.
Sam left his man-dance gig and returned to New Directions to say “the DQ” every two seconds and sing a little ditty about everyone’s favorite beverage bucket — all thanks to product placement.
Tina shows up to Mike Chang Sr.’s work to convince him that Mike Jr. should pursue dance in college. Old man Chang comes around after deadlines have passed, but Tina conveniently sent in forged applications for Mike ahead of time. |
Tina may as well have forged a restraining order for herself while she was at it. Seeing as how Mr. Chang already dislikes Tina, showing up unannounced to his work to tell him how to parent his kid and later revealing that she forged documents without his son’s permission doesn’t seem like it’d win her any points. |
Quinn confronts Ms. Corcoran about sleeping with Puck. Shelby admits to it and offers up, “I wanted to feel young,” as her logical explanation. Quinn’s pissed, but somehow less inclined to turn her in after hearing the simple truth.
Making Shelby’s honesty sound like bitchery was the only way to make Quinn a tolerable character again. After the hot sauce and Botox incident, we all needed a reason to really hate Ms. Corcoran as much as Quinn does. |
New Directions wins sectionals by performing a lackluster compilation of Jackson family songs while shooting overly dramatic looks across the auditorium. |
Much like the Jackson family, New Directions got more interesting the longer they were in the spotlight — but it wasn’t necessarily a good thing. |
New Directions and the Troubletones reunite after sectionals to sing FUN’s “We Are Young” and hug it out as a way of solidifying their unity.
Team Schue and Team Shel reunite for some happy times to make way for next week’s Christmas episode. ‘Tis the season for awkward wrap ups. |
