GLEE Reality Recap: Extraordinary Merry Christmas
This year, all I wanted for Christmas was a solid Glee episode (OK, that’s a total lie) — but I guess the idea of having Christmas magic and all the unrealistic trimmings was just too tempting. Amongst the planning and execution of the glee club’s Christmas spectacular, there were a handful of moments that I’d like to exchange. Hope the writers saved their receipts!
GLEE | REALITY | |
Rory dedicates Elvis’ “Blue Christmas” to his family in Ireland in front of the glee club, who collectively encourage him to focus on the positive.
Rory hint-hints about his family not being able to afford plane tickets to the states, and the glee club gives him the polite brush off.
Artie agrees to direct the televised holiday spectacular for Lima’s PBS. He gets full creative control, as long as he keeps the budget under $800. |
Funding for school art programs and public broadcasting ain’t got your $800, they sent your creative control to the football team. |
The vintage-inspired, black & white, holiday spectacular features Kurt and Blaine hosting a campy and clever Christmas party. They break the fourth wall and treat the audience like a welcomed guest. As the rest of New Directions make their entrances, they sing holiday tunes.
After the first five minutes (which is a mere fraction of the whole nonsense parade), things start to de-rail when the Cheerios try to bring back ribbon dancing, and shit gets way outta hand when Rory starts reading from the Bible, instead of Frosty the Snowman. |
New Directions makes good on its promise to Sue to sing a carol while she feeds the homeless. They choose the Band Aid classic, “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” |
With those plastered-on smiles and oh-so-jolly everything, mixed with the way they’re singing it at the homeless trying to get a bite — it almost makes it sound like they’re literally asking. |
Rachel has a change of heart when Finn finally caves and gets her those stupid diamond earrings she’s been yappin’ about all episode. They return the gift and give the money to a good cause.
She was positively foaming at the mouth over these earrings! There’s no way you could pry them from her hands… or ears… much less get her to voluntarily give them up! “Donate our gifts? Why, Finn darling, it’s the thought that counts, so let’s not and say we did!” |
Gleeks! Did “Extraordinary Merry Christmas” brighten you holiday season?
