What’s your favorite cupcake flavor?
Red velvet because it also happens to be something you find on the red carpet!
What or whom inspired you to pursue a career in comedy?
Laughter inspired me and still inspires me today. Some people who inspired me are Dame Edna (Barry Humphries), Jim Carrey, Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson), Phyllis Diller and Joan Rivers!
If Chuck Norris were to corner you in an alley and challenge you to a duel, what would be your weapon of choice?
My purse, you’d be surprised at how many objects that thing can hold!
What are some challenges you’ve faced since going down the comedy track and what, in your experience, has made those obstacles worth overcoming?
There has been some confusion as to whether or not Angelina Jones is a drag queen or a woman. I can understand how there could be some confusion, since I have the stature of a model and the looks of a goddess. Kathleen Turner and I both have the same issue — very deep voices, but I assure you I am all lady!
What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever heard/seen?
My own personal life as of late. It’s as if I am haunted by my own show – it’s quite ironic how life can imitate art!
Which comedienne, dead or alive, would you love to work with/meet?
Joan Rivers because I want to look as good as her when I’m dead too. Roseanne Barr before she went “nuts”. And love love love Lisa Lampanelli – she’s the funniest Italian bitch I hope to meet one day soon.
In what ways do you think you’ve improved or evolved since your first comedy venture?
Comedy isn’t all about you, it’s about listening and being in the moment.
What long-term/short-term goals do you have for your career?
I truly hope our comedy series gets the attention of some studio or network, so we can make the leap to cable TV – like every other actress in Hollywood I am ready to sleep my way to the top!
Do you have a specific audience to whom you play/would like to play? Describe that audience, and why/how you’re playing to them.
Well yes and no. Some say we are a gay show and others say our show has a very British style to it. I have had gay teenagers all the way through 70 year straight men say they love my show and think it’s very witty and clever. My goal is to appeal to everyone. I think life’s too short to limit yourself – I am an equal opportunity offender!
When you’re not writing/performing comedy, you’re…
Shopping, baking and spending time with my beautiful son – actually I’m thinking about trading him in for a new one!
What’s the difference between appealing to women and appealing to men?
I don’t think there is much of a difference, men want to sleep with me and women want to be me. Like bisexuals, I have the best of both worlds.
What’s your favorite comedy movie or T.V. show of all time?
I don’t know that I can just name one TV show — Little Britain, In Living Color, Mad TV, some SNL years, Three’s Company, Roseanne & Everybody Loves Raymond. The comedies I’m seeing these days are a lot less brave than they were 10 years ago. The history of comedy is to gradually push the boundaries and nobody’s doing that except for this little show, Have You Met Miss Jones?
The title of your autobiography?
It takes balls to be this feminine!
****
And an excerpt from that autobiography:
I was born in a suite at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. My mother couldn’t hold me in, so Angie Dickinson and Nancy Sinatra helped to deliver me. My mother doesn’t know who my father is, but my godparents, Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, told me that he had to be somebody close to Frank Sinatra’s “Rat Pack” — but it definitely not Sammy Davis Jr. I grew up with my grandparents in New Jersey, and immediately following my high school graduation I married the fighter pilot Kane “Napalm” Jones. We moved back to Nevada where I worked as a TV weather girl in Henderson. I had my son Joe when I was only 19, and eight years later my husband died tragically. I now work as a Hollywood gossip reporter on my own cable access show in Burbank, California.
