Finally, a music video made for and by cylons! Yep, “Sound of Cylons” celebrates the sadness, sexiness, and sci-fi extravaganza that is Battlestar Galactica. Frankly, there are not nearly enough Battlestar fan videos, and this one fills a special toaster-shaped hole in our hearts. It has all the right elements, including plenty of Cylons and an overarching theme that speaks to the mourning BSG fan not-so-deep inside of us.
The dulcet, dreamy vocals croon out the geeky tune in a well-executed parody style of the original song. The lyrics are clever, accurate, and make us want to re-watch all four seasons right now…and then maybe The Graduate afterward.
Visually, the video follows a Gaius Baltar-driven narrative, complete with attractive Cylon mates, explosions, and cult worship. It’s basically a best-of BSG clip show cut together with images of a S&G concert. It’s a strange and mesmerizing combination that totally works, and makes us wonder if, perhaps, Simon and Garfunkel are actually cylons themselves.
