Hey dudes! Bobby here from “Guy Time” with some helpful pointers for when you just aren’t sure how to handle yourself at the gym. It’s really easy to make a teeny tiny mistake and ruin your reputation with your gym-mates. Even a cool guy like me has had some “situations” pop up that make locker room encounters a little uncomfortable. But if you follow my guidelines, you’ll find yourself pumping away with all your new muscular buddies in no time! And who doesn’t love pumping away with his buddies, am I right?
1. Be friendly
The gym can be a lonely and scary place. Lots of times, other dudes are so wrapped up in perfecting their bodies that they don’t even notice you smiling at them. I always try to let the other guys know that I appreciate the hard work they put into improving their physiques. I mean, who doesn’t like a nice smile, and maybe sharing a nice cup of coffee with some protein powder with a good buddy after getting all sweaty?
2. Be noticed
Validation is ultra important! I always like to grunt extra loud when I lift weights. I find that a genuine moan will draw the attention of those gym veterans who know what’s what. Make sure to practice full extension, don’t lock out your joints too forcefully, and wear extra tight shorts. Sometimes, if it’s a little chilly, I’ll put rolled-up tube socks in there, too. It’s always important to make a good impression!
3. Be inspired
It’s tough to get motivated and stick to your work-out routine. I can get as lazy as the next dude, so I always try to find something to keep me gung-ho and into my exercise. Just the other day, I was at the gym, working out my traps hardcore! I was really starting to feel the burn, and I wasn’t sure if I could finish my set. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw this guy benchpressing some serious weight. He had a really nice tan, and because I’ve been struggling to get some color, I stared at him for a while. Just by watching the sweat running down his chiseled pecs and focusing on his glistening abs, I suddenly had more than enough energy to pump out my last few reps!
4. Be cool
Working out hardcore can really get your blood pumping. It’s important to keep control over yourself at all times while at the gym. It is not cool to hug other dudes while they’re exercising! I know that’s hard to remember when you’re all jacked up and feeling the testosterone flowing, but you really have to try!
FYI — even though baseball players slap each other on the butt all the time, guys at the gym seem to really not like it.
5. Be a guy
It’s not easy to be a guy and still really care about your body. Your buds will make fun sometimes and make you think that there’s something wrong with you. But be strong! You and I both know that there is absolutely nothing wrong with admiring a beautiful body — male or female. I mean, the girls look good, but when you see a guy standing there, lifting so much weight … I mean, that’s really impressive!
So when the guys come down on you or give you odd looks, just close your eyes, picture that awesome dude from the gym with his rippling, hairless chest, biceps bulging as he presses all that weight … up and down … up and down … over and over again … Mmmm … oh yeah, that’s the good stuff. That dude is your role model — that’s all! — and know that you’re like a way hotter Chuck Norris. Badass!
