Frustrated by the ratings failures of “Just Another Family” starring Steve Belushi and “A Fat White Man and His Beautiful Wife” starring James Kevins, in late 2009, ABC executives attempted to cash in on the growing trend of animal-nick-named-old-dates-young romantic comedies. Based on the strength of this previously long-lost clip (which tested very well among a small group of strict Baptist conservatives), they backed a docu-dramedy reality series entitled “The Panther,” which chronicled the adventures of Barry “Panther” Jenkins. The pilot never saw the light of day, and Barry himself now lives in a remote area of Despair, Maryland, so little else beyond this clip is known of the series.
