You Daft Idiot

directionallychallenged

The navigation lady on my phone has a lot of patience. I really should come up with a more suitable name for her (IPhone calls her Siri, Androids have no name…I call her Nav Girl) …..ok, I will call her ….. It’s too early for that, my mind is going blank, but if you have any suggestions – I’m all ears.

But it’s true, she’s a saint. Yesterday while I was making my way through the streets of Little Rock, Arkansas, I was waiting for her to switch from the very easy-going voice to a fed up automated voice and instead of saying “keep right at the fork” or “make a u-turn” I was waiting for her to snap:

“Bitch I TOLD you to keep right at the fork”

“You wouldn’t have to make a U-Turn you daft idiot if you only you listened to me!!”

“For Pete’s sake what ARE YOU DOING?”

But no…..she was patient as patient can be. Honestly, I don’t know what I would do without her …. I’m so directionally challenged that I admit, I wouldn’t be able to tell you right now which way I’m facing….North?South?East? West? I would just tell you “I’m facing straight ahead” with a cute little grin.

The pups were in desperate need of a haircut…. sure on several occasions I’ve been known to trim them up some, granted It takes me hours and the end result they are all lopsided and looking as though Edward Scissorhands brother got to them but this time I left it to the professionals.

I dropped them off at Doggie Do’s at 8am, seriously my nerves were shot just in the 40 minutes it took me to drive there. 2 pups in the car was enough for me to wish for a couple sips of wine but I opted to head on over to Barnes and Nobles.

But first….I had to find out how to get there from where I was at and honestly, I had no clue where I was…except that I was in Little Rock. Now, don’t get me wrong …. I’ve been here a handful of times but I just know how to get to Barnes and Noble and a few other places going directly from my house. Easy Peasy, but right now I was turned around. I can’t even imagine what life would be like if Thomas Guides were still the rage.

Barnes

I turn into the Cheshire cat whenever I step foot into a Barnes and Noble bookstore. I can’t explain the feeling that I get when I’m surrounded by rows and rows of books…………..it’s probably the same feeling men get when they step into a Home Depot and are surrounded by all those power tools.

I browsed the New Releases and the Must Read books, I found myself giggling inside when I saw the names of books that I’ve reviewed and in pure book lover fashion…I made sure that THOSE books were front and center ….looking their very best!! I even told a few potential book buyers my “Must Read” suggestions. ….. I couldn’t help it, they looked confused. I knew that look ….they are searching for their next book hangover but were overwhelmed, so why not help them. I even suggested a few other books that weren’t available in the store.

(Could you imagine if I owned my own book store…..a TOTAL DREAM COME TRUE!!?)

I had to remind myself that I had other errands to run ….so I pushed myself towards the register and purchased my books and headed out to the car. “Ulta Beauty Little Rock Arkansas” I asked Nav Girl …. She didn’t huff or sigh or come back with “Damn …not again” she was pleasant and in less than a minute I was making my way to Ulta Beauty to find a new lipstick and maybe learn a thing or two about contouring.

I have to say I’ve never had an unpleasant time at this place, granted I have that overwhelmed look on my face, but there is always someone willing to help me out….to find the right lipstick or just to tell me about a certain product.

(Found a new lipstick and more)

I wandered around Little Rock for a few more hours ….going here and there, wasting time. Finally it was time to pick up the fur kids from their day at the doggie spa.

“How were they? Be honest…you can tell me” I asked the groomer at the counter.

“They were good”

“Dart was good?? Come on you can be honest….I won’t be mad?” I tried to needle the truth out of the male groomer. This was Dart’s first time at a groomer and well, he doesn’t play nice with others and I was worried that since he was there with him mom that he would feel that he needed to be overly protective of her.

“No honest, he was good” I was impressed….not just with how behaved they were but from how cute they were when I saw them.

By the end of the day, our adventure to and from Little Rock wore us all out but it was well worth it. I got a few books, some bottles of wine and the pups are sportin a new do!!
