It’s February which means it’s time for everyone to flaunt love in the faces of their single friends. Now, before you get all depressed and start complaining about how all the humans you know have found and posted about their love on Facebook, just remember, its even worse that you thought. Animals can find love too, even fictional animated ones. So, I’m here to rub that in your face with my list of the top 10 animated animal romances.
10. Pongo and Perdita (101 Dalmations)
People often get so caught up in the glamorous horror that is Cruella De Vil that they forget about the true romance of Pongo and Perdita. These two are so good at love, they even matched up their humans. They are a great example for marriages everywhere with their commitment to one in the face of trauma. Plus, to make 101 puppies they obviously really, really enjoyed spending time together in the, uh, dog bed.
9. Marc Anthony and Pussyfoot (Looney Tunes)
No, that’s not some thinly veiled JLo joke, I’m talking about the burly bulldog and adorable black and white kitten from the Looney Tunes cartoons. Opposites attract and while they may be an odd couple, Marc Anthony will do anything to protect the adorable Pussyfoot after she purrs her way into his heart. Although, who can blame him? If you don’t say “Awww” when you see Pussyfoot then YOU DON’T HAVE A HEART.
8. Simba and Nala (The Lion King)
Can you feel the love tonight? Simba and Nala are the Han Solo and Princess Leia of the animated animal kingdom. He runs around with a rag tag band of misfits while she is the feisty princess who works to protect her pride from doom and can always one up him in a tussle. They are a perfect example of how men and women can be equals who work together to save the world from evil uncles and hyenas that are thinly veiled metaphors for Nazis. If only we all got a nickel every time we went on a date and faced that exact situation…
7. Tod and Copper (The Fox and the Hound)
Move over Romeo and Juliet, Tod and Copper are star-crossed lovers caught in a mad bro-mance. Copper is willing to die to save Tod and if that isn’t true love then I don’t know what is. Sorry, Vixey, you may be a foxy date, but for these two, it’ll always be bros before hos.
6. Robin Hood and Maid Marian (Robin Hood)
This may be cheating since they are also an established human romantic couple, but Disney made them foxes, and that makes their love 1,000 times more adorable. It’s just science.
5. Snoopy and Woodstock (Peanuts)
I’m not saying that Snoopy and Woodstock are romantically involved (they’ve been completely silent regarding their orientation). But these two do clearly love each other. Woodstock is able to overlook the fact that Snoopy has a multiple personality disorder that manifests itself as a World War I Flying Ace, while Snoopy ignores the fact that Woodstock is a cannibal. Seriously, he eats turkey for Thanksgiving and if you can hang with that you are in it to win it.
4. Brian and Lois (Family Guy)
Okay, so it’s unrequited love, but Brian’s love for Lois is as real as his love for riding in cars. And he manages to be persistent without taking it to creepy Pepe Le Pew levels, so I’m rooting for him. He may sniff his own behind, but to be fair, so does Peter.
3. Tom and Jerry (Tom and Jerry)
Tom and Jerry don’t actually LOVE each other, but they do LOVE to hate each other and that’s just as powerful. Think about the person you dislike the most, and how many hours you spend stalking their Facebook pages to make sure their life isn’t as good as yours. You probably spend as much time thinking about them as you do thinking about your significant other, which makes them pretty special to you. Now you can skip this week’s therapy. You’re welcome.
2. Mickey and Minnie (Disney)
Minnie and Mickey are the king and queen of animated animals. These mice may not be the most romantic couple, but they are comfortable. They helped to raise you like your cartoon mom and dad. And just like your parents, it would be really traumatic to imagine them getting it on.
1. Lady and the Tramp (Lady and the Tramp)
Lady and the Tramp are the number one most romantic animated animal couple ever. He comes from the wrong side of the tracks, she’s a sweet Sandra Dee type who learns life on the streets and they are a match made in puppy love heaven. Admit it, you’ve always dreamed of a date where spaghetti slurping leads to a hot make out session and rolling meatballs around with your nose.
Honorable Mention: Batman and Catwoman. They’re aren’t really animals, but they are super hot.
