One-Eyed Swordfish Are a Thing Now

Recently, a huge eyeball washed ashore on a Florida beach. Researchers and fish fanciers were baffled until a marine animal eye specialist determined the peculiar peeper belonged to a swordfish.

While we might have hoped this curious orb to be proof Loch Ness monster’s saltwater cousin, or even Cthulhu the mighty, this glistening and wondrous detached eyeball infers that something even niftier slinks beneath the ocean’s surface.

Indeed, rather than assuming the worst for the sight-impaired sea creature to whom this washed-up organ once belonged, we envision a scurvy one-eyed pirate fish swimming somewhere off the coast of Florida. He roams the high seas, searching for treasure, and occasionally swimming smack into things due to depth perception issues.

Here is an artist’s rendering of the pirate swordfish. Note: If you ever encounter this slippery rapscallion, don’t mention the eye patch. He’s sensitive about that.
