What’s your favorite cupcake flavor?

Coconut Bliss with Lemon Basil buttercream frosting.  Although, I have also enjoyed Tarragon Rum Spice.  Oh, now! Let’s keep it simple: give me vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream frosting – hold the sprinkles!

What or whom inspired you to pursue a career in comedy?

Well, there is “ham” in my last name.  So I guess I come from a long line of Ham-mers. Really, I must blame anyone who has ever laughed at me without malice.

If Chuck Norris were to corner you in an alley and challenge you to a duel, what would be your weapon of choice?

I would wield my ingrained care-taking sensitivities to nurse his deep wounds.  The rage would stop.  Believe it or not, I think he might find that refreshing.

What are some challenges you’ve faced since going down the comedy track?  What are some things that have made all of those obstacles worth overcoming?

Oh, I’d say the challenges are really just beginning.  The top of the list remains self promotion. What makes those obstacles worth overcoming? Making people giggle, smile or “lol” and, for myself, the need to get back in therapy.

What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever heard/seen?

You’re putting me on the spot!  There is entirely too much to report.  It goes from a simple memory of my sister face-smashing herself walking into a glass door (she was not harmed) to overhearing a snippet of conversation between two guys biking past me.  One guy had clearly invited the other out for the day needing to obsess over a broken relationship.  The listener, apparently exhausted by the topic, blurts out to his friend while sailing by: “YOU NEVER COMPLEMENTED EACH OTHER AND YOU NEVER WILL!”  (I loved that the glimpse of that conversation gave me a colorful picture of their whole day.)

Which comedienne, dead or alive, would you love to work with/meet?

Je suis on the spot again!  I must say: Miss Bossy Pants!  Maya Rudolph. And, a great supporting actress from the 40s-50s, Thelma Ritter…  (The list does go on…)

In what ways do you think you’ve improved or evolved since your first comedy venture?

I have gotten back into therapy.

What long-term/short-term goals do you have for your career?

To work.  To work.  And to work. Successfully.  Which ultimately is to say, make an audience feel something.

Which character are you most like from “The Divas”?

Let’s think of the cupcake and mix them all together and maybe add extra Betty Kreuger (on a good day) as icing on top.

Do you have a specific audience to whom you play/would like to play? Describe that audience, and why/how you’re playing to them.

Ah, now, I am just getting started! But I can say…  As much as I would like to be an equal opportunity entertainer, may I aim to lean left and hope to inspire the young budding Bossy Pants of the world and the boys that love them, of course!

When you’re not out writing/performing comedy, you are… ?

Black Ops.

The bear doesn’t know it, but he just met a future Giggle Goddess.

What’s the difference between appealing to women and appealing to men?

Since I have to follow my gut in terms of whether I like something, I don’t think I can answer the latter.  Maybe I will personally figure that difference out at some point or maybe others will just have to figure that out for me.

What’s your favorite comedy movie or TV show of all time?

It’s not a short list but for some excerpts…

Movies: Young Frankenstein; Tootsie; Little Miss Sunshine; Date Night; The Thin Man Goes Home

TV: Louie; and, lately, BBC’s The Inbetweeners

The title of your autobiography?

SLEDGE: My Life As a Tool
