4 ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Villain Rejects

The Dark Knight Rises will be released this summer, but already people are super excited about its arrival. Now, we all know that the villains in the new movie will be Catwoman and Bane, but what if Christopher Nolan had considered featuring some of the more lesser-known Batman villains in the new movie?

Here’s a list of ACTUAL villains from the old Batman comic books we wish Nolan would have considered featuring in DKR:

Clayface

In the comic books, Clayface was a villain made entirely out of clay.

In his DKR incarnation, Clayface is a formidable force for Batman.  But, inevitably, Batman ends up defeating this foe easily by slicing Clayface up with a knife, forming clay pots with the various pieces, tossing these pots into a clay stove, removing the finished pots from the stove, setting flowers in each of them, and then, after admiring their beauty for a moment, karate-chopping the pots into several pieces.

Calendar Man

Calendar Man was a villain who committed crimes only on holidays.

Calendar Man tries to rob a bank on Kwanzaa, the popular African-American holiday, but he receives criticism for his unwise decision to use the sacred kinara (the candle holder used in Kwanzaa celebrations) as a deadly weapon against the guards — prompting every other villain in Gotham City to cry foul.  The next day, villains all over Gotham appear on several cable news shows, denouncing Calendar Man’s racially insensitive choice of weapon, and expressing their suspicion that Calendar Man was purposely trying to give honest-to-goodness evildoers a bad name.

Due to the backlash, Calendar Man resigns as a Batman villain — but only after writing an unconvincing apology to the African-American community on his evil blog.  Finally, a few years later, in an ungracious attempt at a comeback, Calendar Man appears as a contestant on Arkham Asylum’s wildly popular reality show, Dancing Behind the Bars.

The Ventriloquist

ventriloquist
The Ventriloquist was a villain who always committed crimes with his ventriloquist dummy.

After successfully kidnapping The Caped Crusader, The Ventriloquist and his dummy are at odds with each other over how to best kill Batman.  The Ventriloquist insists on shooting Batman in the head, while his dummy insists on making Batman “die from laughter” after hearing his clever zingers about awkward situations that modern-day Gothamites often find themselves in.  In the end, the witty banter between The Ventriloquist and his dummy would distract them long enough for Batman to escape the theater at Caesar’s Palace, get a refund at the ticket counter, and then go try his luck at the slots.

Maxie Zeus

maxie
Maxie Zeus was a former history teacher who became a mob boss obsessed with Greek Mythology.

In his DKR incarnation, Maxie Zeus is easily defeated after Batman reveals to everyone in Gotham City that Maxie Zeus is still a virgin at the age of 45.  Humiliated, Maxie Zeus gives up his life of crime, retreats to his parents’ basement, and plays World of Warcraft for the rest of his life.
